Howard University announced that its student information system, BisonWeb, will be deactivated by fall 2024.
The Hill Top, the school’s newspaper, reported that a new system for students and faculty will replace BisonWeb and that the system’s new name will be decided from the results of a student naming contest. The five finalists’ names selected are BisonReady, BeHerd, HUCONNECT, BisonBridge, and BisonHub.
Howard University’s Campus Life has been working on the transition from the Ellucian Banner system to Workday Student since the fall of 2021. The current Ellucian Banner system is designed specifically to assist colleges in maintaining information that students need, such as accessing financial aid and creating their class schedules.
The new Workday Student system is cloud-based and provides applications. The software Workday Student uses specializes in helping companies manage large amounts of information and provide tools for managing the different parts of their business.
“This implementation of the Workday Student project was meant to raise the concerns that the students presented to get some upgraded technology,” said Sierra Pegues, an organizational change management and training specialist at Howard University. “So with this being the student information system, it was important for us to include the students in the process.”
The Hill Top reported that Howard University announced the contract with Workday on Aug. 27, 2020. The school said the new contract aligns with the Howard Forward 2024 plan, specifically with the Efficiency and Effectiveness pillar.
