The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) has appointed Tony Sauerhoff interim executive director of the state agency and interim chief information officer (CIO) for the state.
Sauerhoff is already well established in the DIR, where he has been chief AI and innovation officer since 2025.
He also recently served as Texas state chief information security officer (CISO) and the state’s cybersecurity coordinator.
Sauerhoff also brings plenty of federal-level experience to the new roles in Texas. That includes positions as circuit IT security officer with the U.S. court system from 2017 to 2022, and a six-year stint as a communications specialist with the U.S. Air Force.
DIR said it will launch a search for a permanent executive director of the agency.
