Harford Community College – a public community college in Bel Air, Md. – has named Brian Kraus at the college’s new chief information officer, effective Aug. 4.

In a press release, the college said that Kraus has held a range of leadership roles in higher education IT, including CIO positions at the California University of Pennsylvania and Volunteer State Community College.

“I’m thrilled to begin my new role as Chief Information Officer at Harford Community College. It’s an honor to join an institution committed to excellence and innovation in education,” Kraus said in a LinkedIn post on Aug. 5. “I look forward to contributing to the College’s continued growth and success and becoming an active member of the Harford County community.”

Previously, he served as the director of campus applications at West Virginia University (WVU), as well as the university’s director of academic systems. In these roles, he led teams responsible for WVU student-facing technology including Student Information System (Banner), Student Portal (Ellucian Portal), Learning Management System (Blackboard), Office 365, Zoom, and Atlassian Suite, among others.

Additionally, Kraus serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Arizona and the University of the Cumberlands, where he teaches courses in project management, information security, computer information systems, and business leadership.

“Kraus served as Associate Vice President/Chief Information Officer at California University of Pennsylvania, where he led a reimplementation of the Banner Student Information System, implemented Slate CRM, modernized surveillance and access technologies, and designed IT strategic and disaster recovery plans,” Harford’s release says.

“Other positions he has held include serving as the Chief Information Officer at Volunteer State Community College in Tennessee, the Director of Instructional Technology at Longwood University in Virginia, and the Director of Technology at Argosy University in Florida,” it adds.
