Georgia state employees will receive free artificial intelligence (AI) training under a new partnership with InnovateUS that will teach public sector workers how to use the technology responsibly.

The hands-on training program will build upon Georgia’s current generative AI guidance, which places an emphasis on transparency, accountability and collaboration, the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) said in an announcement

“This training will give state employees the foundation to use AI confidently, safely, and effectively in their daily work. It covers the basics of what AI can do, how to use it, and how to protect sensitive data and organizational assets while integrating AI into workflows,” said Nikhil Deshpande, chief digital and AI officer for GTA.

“Together we can build the skills, safeguards, and confidence to use AI responsibly while unlocking new opportunities and improving the way we deliver services across Georgia,” Deshpande added.

Employees will have access to the “Responsible AI for public professionals” course series through the InnovateUS and GTA AI learning hub. “We want every public professional to feel confident knowing when and how to use, and not use, AI to serve the residents of Georgia,” said Beth Simone Noveck, director of InnovateUS.

“Partnering with the state of Georgia to invest in its workforce by helping government workers learn how to use generative AI sets a national example for how to build capacity in government and ensure we are using these powerful tools responsibly and effectively to deliver better services and create a more responsive government,” she added.

InnovateUS provides free training for public sector employees who want to take courses on data, digital innovation, and AI, according to its website. The organization recently announced partnerships for AI training with Salt Lake City, New York State, and DuPage County, Ill.
