Florida has awarded a $700 million contract to Harris Corp. to provide a statewide communications network. This network will connect 4,000 sites, bringing together public safety, law enforcement, public schools, and other state and local government agencies.
“By implementing this statewide communications infrastructure, Florida’s state and local agencies will be connected so they can work together seamlessly and efficiently, whether in emergency situations or conducting routine business,” said Carl D’Alessandro, president of Harris Critical Networks. “Our mission critical network services will support the safety and economic growth of [Florida] while generating cost savings over the life of the program.”
MyFloridaNet-2 will provide secure telecommunications services and approximately 4,700 connections via a statewide communications infrastructure.
The Harris network will support voice, data, and video connectivity for Florida’s government agencies, including county and city municipalities. The contract will also support K-12 public schools and libraries by delivering Internet access, email, and Web hosting.
