First Lady Melania Trump on Aug. 26 invited K-12 students and educators across the country to participate in the Presidential Artificial Intelligence (AI) Challenge, which is designed to boost understanding and innovation in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
Unveiled in a video message posted to the federal government’s AI.gov website, the challenge calls on young people and their teachers to explore how AI can be used to address community challenges.
The challenge marks a national effort to introduce students to responsible uses of AI tools, while encouraging educators to bring creative, tech-forward strategies into the classroom.
Participants in the challenge will engage in hands-on learning through two project tracks.
Students will complete a project that applies AI tools or methods to address local issues, while educators will develop or apply instructional approaches that incorporate AI into K-12 learning environments.
Organizers say the challenge aims to demystify artificial intelligence, promote responsible innovation, and prepare students for the AI-powered workforce of the future. The initiative also seeks to foster creativity and community engagement through technology.
“The Presidential AI Challenge will be the first step in preparing our next generation with a base understanding of this important new technology,” the First Lady said.
In her video, Mrs. Trump shared her personal experience with AI while creating an audiobook and spoke to the powerful AI-driven transformation already underway across industries.
“In just a few short years, artificial intelligence will be the engine driving every business sector across our economy,” she said, adding, “It is important America leads the rest of the world.”
