The Chicago City Council has voted to confirm Nick Lucius as the new chief information officer (CIO) for the City of Chicago Department of Technology and Innovation. Lucius previously served as the chief technology and data officer for the Office of the Mayor.
“I am thankful for the City Council’s confirmation of Nick Lucius to serve at the helm of the Department of Technology and Innovation,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “This is a major step forward in transforming how our city agencies provide services to our city residents. I am confident that with his expertise and years of experience as a technologist, this department will thrive in addressing the barriers between residents and accessing technology across Chicago.”
In his prior role, city leaders said Lucius demonstrated exceptional skill and adeptness in developing data architecture and infrastructure for public data dashboards and apps. Specifically, he worked on the Violence Reduction Dashboard and the COVID Dashboard to provide residents with hyper-local, up-to-date data and statistics.
“I am honored to serve this beautiful City as the Chief Information Officer for the Department of Technology and Innovation,” said Lucius. “I want to thank the City Council for their support and the Mayor’s vision to improve how our agencies work together. I am committed to ensuring that we continue to reinvent our approach to technology and innovation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our services.”
In addition to his job with the city, Lucius also serves on various boards including those of the Open Mobility Foundation, Array of Things Executive Oversight Committee, H2NOW Chicago Advisory Committee, and the Chicago Digital Government Summit.
Lucius has a B.A. in Psychology and Political Science from Ohio State University, as well as a J.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from DePaul University.
