The University of Connecticut (UConn) appointed Haleh Ghaemolsabahi as interim chief information officer (CIO) on July 6, putting a three-decade UConn technology veteran in charge of the university’s central IT organization.

UConn President Radenka Maric announced the appointment in a letter to the university community, citing Ghaemolsabahi’s experience across IT services and her work on major university technology systems.

“She is well-known for building strong partnerships across academic and administrative units to advance technology-enabled outcomes and in identifying opportunities for collaboration, efficiency, and risk reduction through centralization of IT services for distributed units and regional campuses,” Maric wrote.

Ghaemolsabahi began at UConn in 1994 as a technician and later served as IT team lead, IT relationship manager, director of campus technology services, deputy CIO, and interim and acting CIO, according to the university.

Ghaemolsabahi created and implemented UConn’s first institutional website; led strategy, implementation, integration, and evolution of the university’s enterprise learning management system; and developed the Classroom Technology Lifecycle Program. She also led the development of a globally accessible scientific research database and the implementation of UConn’s emergency communications platform and integration with university web services.

Ghaemolsabahi holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Université Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France, and a master’s degree in applied mathematics from UConn.

Her appointment continues a period of interim technology leadership at UConn. Previously, Theodore “Ted” Laskaris served as a consultant and interim CIO from May 2025 to April 2026. He stepped in after former UConn CIO Michael Mundrane became CIO for the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system in December 2024.
