The University of Pennsylvania has appointed Joshua Beeman as chief information officer (CIO) and vice president for information technology.
Beeman, who has been a fixture in the university’s technology operations leadership since 2010, served as CIO and IT VP on an interim basis since August 2025.
His first day with the new title is set for April 1, pending approval by the university’s board of trustees.
Beeman was Penn’s IT executive director from 2018 to 2019, and its university information security officer from 2010 to 2018.
Prior to then, he was a senior cybersecurity advisor at Los Alamos National Laboratory, which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy.
“Josh has been instrumental in advancing Penn’s technology infrastructure, and his appointment reflects both the confidence we have in his leadership and the ambition we have for what comes next,” commented Penn Executive Vice President Mark Dingfield.
“He understands the full scope of what enterprise IT means for Penn, and he has the vision to usher us into our next chapter,” Dingfield added.
“Josh has spent years building partnerships across Penn’s schools and centers, and he understands how technology enables the academic enterprise -from research computing to the classroom,” stated Penn Provost John Jackson Jr.
