Colorado State University Global (CSU Global) has partnered with broadband and telecommunications organization SCTE to launch a new training program to equip broadband specialists with skills to expand infrastructure.

The program will especially work to grow infrastructure in underserved rural areas, and will provide training in fiber optics, directional drilling, utility safety, and leadership skills.

Participants will receive a Broadband Operations Management Certificate upon successful completion, CSU Global said, and the program will be the first fully online, asynchronous program of its kind in Colorado. It will combine coursework with a hands-on, work-based experience component.

“We are honored to partner with SCTE to address a critical need in our state and across the nation,” said Becky Takeda-Tinker, president of CSU Global, in a statement. “This partnership not only provides educational training opportunities but also directly contributes to the economic vitality and connectivity of our communities.”

“Partnering with leading organizations like SCTE allows us to stay at the forefront of industry needs, ensuring our programs are continuously aligned with the current technical skills and knowledge employers are seeking for learner workplace and professional success,” she continued.

SCTE members will receive special tuition rates, and certain SCTE certifications and courses can be converted into academic credit, reducing both the time and cost to complete the program, CSU Global said.

“Our partnership with CSU Global creates a clear pathway for SCTE members to advance their careers,” said Maria Popo, president and CEO of SCTE, in a statement. “Together, we are strengthening the workforce pipeline by expanding opportunities that attract, develop and retain skilled broadband professionals.”

The announcement of the new training program comes as states across the nation call for increased access to connectivity, including requesting the prioritization of improved broadband infrastructure for fiscal year 2026.
