The University of Wisconsin-Madison has hired Didier Contis as the university’s new chief information officer (CIO) and vice provost for information technology, with a start date of July 7.

Contis disclosed the new job on his LinkedIn page.

“I am thrilled to join an incredible institution with an unwavering commitment to improving lives across Wisconsin, the nation, and the world,” the new CIO said, adding, “I’m humbled by the opportunity to lead such a thoughtful and strong IT community.”

“Didier brings a powerful blend of strategic vision, technical expertise and a deep commitment to innovation and equity in technology,” the university said in announcing the appointment.

Contis is heading to Wisconsin-Madison after a 26-year stint at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He took over as Georgia Tech’s executive director of academic technology, innovation, and research computing in 2022, and before that was the director of technology services in the university’s College of Engineering.

“Didier has been a driving force behind some of the most innovative and impactful academic technology initiatives at Georgia Tech,” commented Leo Howell, vice president for IT and CIO at the university. “His leadership has helped elevate our approach to research computing and academic innovation, and we are proud to see him take on this prestigious new role at UW–Madison.”
