Valley City State University (VCSU) launched the Viking Mobile ID platform allowing students and faculty to access campus buildings and purchase meals more conveniently, safely, and securely.

Viking Mobile ID – available for iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android Phones – allows students and faculty to complete any action that previously required a physical ID card. This included gaining access to residence halls as assigned, checking out a book at the Allen Memorial Library, purchasing a meal at the Viking Café or Viking I, buying coffee at Viking Grounds, or making purchases at the campus bookstore.

“Moving from physical cards to a contactless Viking Mobile ID allows for transactions that are safe, convenient, and highly secure,” VCSU President Alan LaFave said in a press statement. “This also helps students avoid touching the readers or handing their ID cards to someone else. The safety and security of students and employees is a top priority. The Viking Mobile ID is a great addition to the VCSU experience.”

On trend with best cyber practices, VCSU has implemented two-factor authentication within the Viking Mobile ID to ensure the security of its network and users.

In addition, to set up their mobile school ID, students must download the eAccounts app, authenticate with their university credentials, and then add their Viking Mobile ID to their mobile devices.

“VCSU continues to provide technology leadership in North Dakota higher education,” said Joe Tykwinski, VCSU chief information officer. “The latest mobile solutions help ensure students and employees have convenient access to the information and services they need.”
