The University of Central Florida (UCF) announced it has hired Matthew Hall as vice president of IT and CIO.

Hall, who most recently served as senior associate vice chancellor for IT and cyber risk responsible executive at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will join UCF on Feb. 5.

“Matt has a breadth of experience leading technology upgrades, support, and security that aligns well with our vision for the future,” said UCF President Alexander N. Cartwright in a press release. “I look forward to welcoming Matt to the leadership team and to working with him to help our faculty, staff, and students to teach, learn, and innovate at their best.”

Prior to his work at University of California, Santa Barbara, Hall held positions at Koch Industries International, Microsoft, Bank of America, and Vanderbilt University.

“We are excited about the experience, leadership, and vision that Matt brings to help UCF leverage technology to elevate academic achievement and operational excellence,” said Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Johnson. “His ability to help us find opportunities for digital innovation is a key to our future success.”

At the University of California, Santa Barbara, Hall helped develop the school’s first IT strategy, developed governance and federated IT structures, and consolidated IT operations, including standardizing email and collaboration tools.

At UCF, Hall will report directly to the university provost. UCF said he will “serve as a key member of the senior leadership team to provide executive leadership and strategic vision for the institution’s information technology infrastructure, assets, and services.” Hall also will be tasked with working directly with university stakeholders, including faculty and staff members, to leverage IT innovations for both research and instruction purposes.

Hall replaces Josh Hartman, who retired in July of 2020. Since Hartman’s retirement, Michael Sink has been serving in this role in an interim capacity and will report to Hall when he assumes his new role.
