The school year might be over, but learning hasn’t stopped. While their students are off splashing in pools, relaxing on beaches, and sleeping in late, teachers are working on lesson plans and preparing their classrooms for the next school year.
Teachers can also strengthen their ed tech skills with free webinars offered over summer break. From learning about new types of classroom technology to gaining insight on how to better incorporate technology into their current lesson plans, these webinars offer free professional development for K-12 teachers.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the webinars happening this summer:
- June 23, 2-3 p.m. ET – The Education Week Tech Confidence Index: How Teachers View Educational Technology
In this webinar, Education Week’s Research Center will take a deeper dive into Education Week’s new Tech Confidence Index data, released on June 13. The webinar will feature Wendy Drexler, education consultant, International Society for Technology in Education; Holly Yettick, director, Education Week Research Center; and Sean Cavanagh, associate editor, Education Week. Following a brief data presentation from Yettik, there will be a moderated discussion about teachers and technology. - July 13, 3-4 p.m. ET – Young Children and Technology: Warren Buckleitner Shares Expert Advice
Warren Buckleitner, editor, Children’s Technology Review, shares his expert advice on exposing young children to technology. The webinar, sponsored by Gryphon House, a publisher of early childhood resources, will cover topics, including 10 of the most exciting learning apps, what hardware teachers need to get started, how to use a child’s “technology addiction” to their advantage, and a simple, powerful formula to pass along to other parents and teachers. - July 19, 1-2 p.m. ET – Options for eText: Facilitating Access and Comprehension Through Electronic Text
This webinar, presented by Sean Sweeney, speech-language pathologist and instructional tech specialist, The Ely Center, will expose teachers to electronic texts and accompanying accessibility features at a variety of price points. The webinar, sponsored by app maker MES Publishing, will showcase platforms with a demonstration of apps and features that will help teachers master eTexts in no time. - July 19, 3-4 p.m. ET – How to Connect Science, Technology, Engineering, Robotics, Arts, and Math in the Classroom
In this webinar, Library Media Specialist Karey Killian will highlight how science, technology, engineering, robotics, arts, and math (STREAM) teaching can create meaningful learning experiences for students. The webinar, hosted by school supply store Quill.com and education resource provider Big Deal Media, will address how to approach STREAM as a way of thinking through learning, not as a subject or a class; provide all students with opportunities to discover unique ways of making learning connections with STREAM; connect students’ experiences with those of other students, while sharing their learning adventures; help students showcase their discoveries with others; include STREAM thinking activities in the classroom; and create unique learning adventures by using Skype classroom.
