San Antonio appointed Brian Dillard as its chief innovation officer earlier this month, a move that would make his interim position in the role permanent.
In a statement, City Manager Erik Walsh said that Dillard looks to continue the city’s implementation of smart city initiatives, innovation zones through SmartSA, and CivTechSA, a program that seeks to fix problems within the city with tech startup collaborations with public agencies.
Dillard began as San Antonio’s chief innovation officer on an interim basis after then innovation officer Jose De La Cruz left the position after serving six years in November 2018. Previously, Dillard was San Antonio’s smart city administrator, and he also spent 10 years working for the U.S. Air Force as a cybersecurity specialist.
Before serving in the public sector, Dillard worked in various technological positions for Dela Risk, Lockhead Martin, and Shell.
