The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), a professional association for school system technology leaders, has awarded Beavercreek City Schools in Beavercreek, Ohio, the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal for its student data privacy work.

The CoSN TLE Seal is a national distinction awarded to school districts that demonstrate exemplary leadership in safeguarding student data through comprehensive privacy policies and practices.

With this achievement, Beavercreek becomes the seventh school district in Ohio to receive a TLE Seal or a TLE Mini Seal. To date, districts that have earned the distinction have enhanced privacy protections for more than 1.2 million students nationwide.

“CoSN is proud to recognize Beavercreek City Schools for taking concrete steps to enhance their student data privacy practices. Supporting districts as they navigate these evolving responsibilities is central to our mission,” Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN, said in a June 2 press release.

The CoSN TLE Seal program requires that school systems uphold high standards for protecting student data privacy across five key practice areas: Leadership, Business, Data Security, Professional Development, and Classroom. All TLE Seal applicants receive detailed feedback and guidance aimed at strengthening their data privacy efforts.

Maintaining the TLE Seal requires an ongoing commitment – recipients must reapply every two years, demonstrating continuous improvement and adherence to evolving privacy standards.

“I am thrilled to announce that our district has successfully earned our CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal, a prestigious mark of distinction awarded to school systems demonstrating tangible steps taken to excellence in protecting our students’ personal information,” said Paul Otten, the superintendent at Beavercreek City Schools. “This certification reflects the dedication of our district technology team, led by Mike Shuman, and our district-wide commitment to implementing transparent, comprehensive student-data privacy practices.”

“Earning the CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal validates our commitment to implementing high standards for student data protection across all aspects of our school district. This achievement represents countless hours of dedicated work and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continuously improving our privacy practices for years to come,” added Mike Shuman, director of technology at Beavercreek City Schools.
