Dave Weinstein, who became New Jersey’s first chief technology officer (CTO) in June 2016, confirmed he would resign today when incoming Gov. Phil Murphy takes his oath of office.
Weinstein, appointed by outgoing Gov. Chris Christie, has led the charge on developing and implementing innovation strategies and cybersecurity standards, as well as leading the state’s IT services modernization push.
Word on the street is that Weinstein plans to take a two-week vacation, but isn’t commenting on his next career move–except to say that he will take a break from the public sector.
In terms of filling the role of CTO, the process is a bit unclear. However, Weinstein confirmed that his second in command at the Office of Information Technology’s (OIT), Odysseus Marcopolus, will stay on until replaced by the Murphy Administration. Marcopolus has served as OIT’s chief operating officer since 2016.
