Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute and Vigo County School Corporation in Indiana partnered for a second year to offer TechQuest, a weeklong career exploration camp for local rising eighth graders, the college announced in a June 18 press release.

The no-cost camp gives students hands-on exposure to high-demand career fields, including machine tool technology, robotics, welding, precision agriculture, healthcare, and diesel and automotive technologies. Transportation and meals are provided throughout the week, Ivy Tech said.

“TechQuest gives students the opportunity to explore new interests and discover possibilities they may not have previously considered,” said Chris Himsel, superintendent of Vigo County School Corporation. “Experiences like this help students connect what they are learning in school to future education and career opportunities while encouraging curiosity and confidence.”

Students will have access to Ivy Tech’s advanced learning labs, participate in interactive activities, and gain firsthand experience with a variety of tech-related career pathways.

TechQuest is made possible through the support of Vigo County School Corporation, the Glenn Bailey Foundation, the Ivy Tech Foundation, as well as startup support from Alpa Patel, who serves on the Ivy Tech and Vigo County Education Foundation boards.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of TechQuest is seeing students step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and discover talents and interests they didn’t know they had,” said Amanda Cox, assistant vice chancellor of enrollment and student success at Ivy Tech.

“By bringing together educators, community partners, and hands-on learning experiences, we can help students begin exploring the many possibilities available to them in the future,” Cox said.
