The Toombs County School District, Ga., has launched a new digital learning platform ahead of the new school year. The school district partnered with Discovery Education to provide K-12 teachers and students access to a digital learning platform that provides access to resources in all subjects at home and in the classroom.
“Toombs County Schools have made it a priority to utilize the latest technology to create engaging learning environments for all students,” said District Technology Coordinator Connor Stanley. “The Discovery Education platform and its powerful digital assets are an important part of this effort, and we look forward to integrating those resources into teaching and learning districtwide in the upcoming coming school year.”
In a press release, the school district said the new platform connects teachers and students with “standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources.” The press release also noted that the platform is updated monthly in response to current events and the changing education landscape.
The new platform is designed to work within the school district’s existing infrastructure and workflows and provides secure and simple access methods for educators and students.
The Toombs County School District joins Mississippi’s Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) in using Discovery Education’s learning platform. VWSD announced it was rolling out the learning platform in June. In a press release, VWSD said it was specifically interested in using the platform to encourage K-6 students to think about potential future career paths.
The school district announced it entered into a multiyear partnership with Discovery Education to support district educators in grades K-6 with the digital resources and professional learning they need to equip every student to succeed in challenging courses, meet academic standards, and graduate from school prepared for college and career-ready.
VWSD said the new initiative aligns with the district’s 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, which calls for increased opportunities to build student’s college and career readiness. To meet the strategic plan’s goals, VWSD said it sought a “flexible digital resource” that could provide “relevant, real-world learning experiences, expand digital learning in all disciplines and grades, and support instruction either in the classroom or remote environment.”
