Fairfax County, Va., has appointed Matt Harrison as its new chief information officer (CIO) and director of the Department of Information Technology (DIT).

Harrison will step into the new role on April 21.

Prior to accepting the new position, Harrison served as director of information technology for Stafford County, Va. In his previous position, Harrison was tasked with transforming IT strategic, governance, service delivery and customer service practices. He also led successful updates to critical IT operations, including the rollout of modernized Wi-Fi services across government and public safety locations, infrastructure upgrades, and the deployment of advanced Microsoft applications and cloud services.

Before his stint with Stafford County, Harrison served as director of software engineering at GEICO Technology Solutions.

In his new role, he will oversee cybersecurity, network infrastructure, and the delivery of technology services that support county departments and residents. Fairfax County noted that his work will support the county’s commitment to fostering innovation, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring that technology investments align with strategic objectives.

Harrison replaces Greg Scott, who is retiring after decades of service to Fairfax County.
