Both teachers and administrators agree that education technology is key to improving the classroom, according to a new survey from edtech platform Clever.
According to the survey, nearly two-thirds of teachers (63 percent) reported that edtech has been key in lightening their workloads. When it comes to edtech’s top benefit in the classroom, 68 percent of teachers said efficiency gains are edtech’s main advantage, and 74 percent of administrators cited its impact on teacher effectiveness.
“Edtech applications provide teachers with insights into student progress, identifying their student’s needs and in many cases offering supplemental resources – a significant relief for teachers and a major support for struggling students,” said Mark Choi, Instructional App Specialist of Bellevue School District.
On a positive note, students are now far more accepting of edtech, especially when compared to initial apprehension at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The overwhelming majority of teachers (79 percent) and administrators (89 percent) reported sustained or more positive student attitudes toward edtech over the past year. Aligned with student acceptance of edtech, many teachers and administrators reported an increase in overall usage of edtech tools.
One of the most significant areas where edtech improves the learning experience is helping teachers offer personalized learning, especially for diverse learners. That said, the majority of teachers and administrators agree that they need more edtech support when it comes to students with IEPs or 504 plans. Further highlighting the struggles of using edtech to reach diverse learners, 56 percent of teachers and 59 percent of administrators have concerns abound about the availability of products effectively serving diverse learners.
The study, based on data collected in Spring 2023, surveyed 1,000 teachers and 500 administrators.
