Brown University has announced that Sharon P. Pitt will be the new vice president for information technology (IT) and chief information officer (CIO) starting on December 1.
As the new vice president, Pitt will oversee advancing and creating a culture of technological infrastructure that will be geared to developing support and growth of research in various academic disciplines.
“She possesses critical experience with instructional technology and research, and she’s also engaged in information technology at the national level, so she understands how to leverage new opportunities to ensure the University’s systems are secure and best in class,” stated Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Sarah C. Latham.
Pitt comes to this position after serving as the vice president for information technologies and CIO at the University of Delaware, where she has been working for over four years.
“I’ve spent much of my career in support of teaching and learning technologies, and I’m very excited to bring my unique perspective to Brown to advance progress in those areas,” Pitt said. “I’ll work responsively and collaboratively with Brown faculty, staff, and students to support the different disciplines, which have distinct computation, networking and security needs, while advancing the strategic directions of the University and ensuring robust and reliable systems everywhere.”
Pitt also has experience working at various other institutions of higher learning, including working as the CIO at Binghamton University and as the deputy CIO at George Mason University. At both institutions, she was tasked with providing technology infrastructure and computing services.
Pitt will be replacing Interim Chief Digital and Information Officer John Spadaro as he will continue to work as deputy CIO.
