Nevada officially launched the state’s Office of Information Security & Cyber Defense (OISCD) on July 1 and appointed Adam Miller as its inaugural deputy director.

In a press release posted to LinkedIn, the state said the office is a new division under the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).

However, in a separate post on LinkedIn, the state announced that the OCIO is now renamed the Governor’s Technology Office (GTO). The office said the new name signals its statewide reach, strategic focus, and direct line to leadership.

The OISCD was created under Senate Bill 467 during the 83rd legislative session. The office aims to centralize statewide cybersecurity operations, incident response, and resilience planning to better protect Nevadans.

“Cyber threats evolve daily, the passage and signing of SB 12 ensures Nevada is ready,” said Timothy Galluzi, Nevada’s chief information officer. “Adam brings the strategic vision and policy experience needed to stand up OISCD and deliver a robust, whole-of-state defense posture from day one.”

Under the law, OISCD is tasked with creating a statewide security operations center, leading vulnerability and threat-management programs across the state, issuing minimum security standards and architecture guidance for state agencies, coordinating cyber incident response, and delivering workforce-wide cybersecurity awareness training.

Miller joined the Nevada government in 2024 as the administrator for the Office of Cyber Defense Coordination. Miller previously served as the senior policy advisor to the principal cyber advisor at the U.S. Army, and he was a legislative liaison at the U.S. Cyber Command.

“I am honored to be appointed to deputy director of the Office of Information Security and Cyber Defense. Working with our state, local, tribal, and territorial partners to create a whole-of-state cybersecurity posture is my top priority,” Miller said. “I look forward to building on the hard work and successes of the Office of Cyber Defense Coordination and the Office of Information Security.”

“I am thankful for the confidence that Governor Lombardo, GTO Executive Director Tim Galluzi, and the rest of the GTO leadership team have instilled in me to lead this flagship organization through a transformative time in state cybersecurity.,” Miller added. “Our focus is collaboration – uniting state, local, tribal, and private-sector partners to build a resilient cyber ecosystem.”
