New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a partnership with Code for America to help New Yorkers file their tax returns for free online.

Code for America, a civic tech nonprofit, announced the second cohort of state and local partners for its Safety Net Innovation Lab. As part of the next cohort, Code for America will work with New York, New Mexico, Maryland, and the District of Columbia to “reimagine and rebuild the delivery of safety net benefits.”
Code for America announced earlier this week that California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Louisiana “have committed to partnering with the Safety Net Innovation Lab (the Lab) to transform how social safety net services are delivered.”
Code for America received two separate investments, totaling $100 million over seven years, to set up its Safety Net Innovation Lab and work with state and local government agencies to modernize their social safety net administration services to make access to government services more equitable, the nonprofit announced April 12.
Code for America has launched a new initiative to work with state and local governments (SLGs) to rebuild America’s safety net so that “government services are equitable, easy-to-use, and built for the digital age.”
