San Francisco city leaders are touting successes seen from recently installed automated license plate reader cameras, noting that the cameras have led to arrests for crimes including organized retail theft, carjacking, robbery, and sexual assault.

Amid the Bay Area’s recent record-breaking heat wave, the City of San Francisco took the opportunity to launch a heat mapping effort to collect data on the impacts of extreme heat.

The City of San Francisco became the first city in the United States to ban law enforcement, as well as other city agencies, from using facial recognition technologies when its Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the Stop Secret Surveillance Ordinance.

In the near future, 8,000 new residents of Treasure Island, Calif., will travel around the island in buses that drive themselves, according to plans outlined by the city of San Francisco. The project will be funded through a U. S. Department of Transportation award for smart city projects.
