The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) component could be doing more to help Tribal authorities with technical assistance as they seek to create and improve broadband services using $3 billion in funding from the Federal government’s Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP), according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

While the Biden administration is pushing hard to increase broadband service access across the country, the White House needs to come up with a national strategy to do so on tribal lands where broadband access has traditionally lagged, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in a new report.

In a report released Wednesday, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) could do more to expand broadband access on tribal lands. The GAO offered three recommendations to the FCC, which the agency agreed with.
